Our Story
Joyous Chaos (formerly Lavender Lactation, LLC ) started as a dream back in the summer of 2020! Yes, in the midst of a global pandemic where everyone and everything was experiencing chaos while learning how to quickly transition everyday life into a virtual reality. I was working 3 days a week as an inpatient Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the Newborn Nursery at UNC and 1 day a week in our pediatric clinic doing lactation consultations. I quickly learned how to help families navigate their “Happy Crisis” including breastfeeding struggles via Telemedicine. As much as my husband and I loved our jobs, God had other plans for our family and placed it on our hearts to move to Harrisonburg, VA in November of 2020. At that time our son was 9 (navigating virtual school) and our twins were 16 months old. Talk about a “Happy Crisis” for our family! This move would allow my husband to take an active role in the family farm and me to care for our 3 children while working from home with our Wellness Company Isagenix. Since November of 2020 I have served hundreds of families with their own "Joyous Chaos” including breastfeeding support, in-home consultations, phone/FaceTime consults and newborn education classes. In the summer of 2023 I felt it was time to rebrand to Joyous Chaos, in hopes of providing a more inclusive approach to supporting families welcoming a newborn into their home! My goals are your goals! It is my job to help you reach them! Thank you for being part of my story and I am honored to be part of yours!
Our Mission
Our mission is to support, educate, & empower families in the Shenandoah Valley who are expecting or have recently welcomed a new baby or babies into their homes. With over 20 years of experience, our Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and IBCLC will individualize you and your baby's feeding support plan, identify barriers to achieving your unique goals, assess milk transfer, weight trends, maternal & infant concerns, and communicate to community OB and Pediatric providers to provide true interdisciplinary newborn care. Before your baby arrives we offer Newborn Bootcamp followed by
in-home lactation support.
Our services
- Newborn Bootcamp: This class is designed for expectant couples between 30-40 weeks of pregnancy. In person classes are held at Hygge Wellness Center in Harrisonburg, VA. Becoming a parent is a life-changing experience, and it can be overwhelming to navigate the many challenges that come with it. Newborn Bootcamp helps prepare new parents for the joys and challenges of parenthood by teaching them the tools they need to thrive in their new roles. We will discuss how to prepare for your new baby, what to expect in the days/weeks after delivery, and basic newborn care such as swaddling, diapering, feeding, burping, & bathing. Newborn Bootcamp helps to prepare you for anticipated growth spurts, basic breastfeeding positions, proper latch techniques, paced bottle feeding, pumping tips, and helps to drive your family's discussion of your feeding goals! Your goals are our goals and its our job to help make them a reality! No judgement- EVER. Regardless of how you plan or hope to feed your baby Newborn Bootcamp will give you the fundamentals needed to make an educated & confident decisions and bridge the gap of not knowing what you don't know about babies :) Newborn Bootcamp is highly recommended for first time parents and makes a great baby shower gift (gift certificates available). Each class has a maximum of 4 couples to keep it personal and intimate. Not the group type?? No problem! Send us a message and we can schedule your own Private Newborn Bootcamp to meet your needs.
- Consultations: We offer in-home feeding consultations to support your unique needs. Receiving feeding support in your own home is not only unique but convenient! Practice where you feed :)
